Crisco is a vegetable fat or shortening packaged in a 3-pound easy-close can. It has several uses, such as spreading gum paste and preventing it from sticking to the hands or the board, to grease the cutters if necessary, to soften the fondant when kneading it... Once opened, it can be kept at room temperature for a year.
